HiPo Registry
About the Registry
A registry for the 1965–1967 Ford Mustang 289 High Performance.
Our Mission
The HiPo Registry is a home for 1965, 1966, and 1967 Ford Mustangs equipped with the 289 High Performance engine — the legendary K-Code. Our mission is to create a permanent, verifiable record of every surviving example of this extraordinary automobile.
Of the approximately 13,200 K-Code Mustangs produced between 1965 and 1967 — a fraction of the nearly 1.7 million Mustangs built during those years — only an estimated 2,000 to 4,000 are believed to survive today. Each remaining vehicle is a piece of American automotive history.
The K-Code Engine — 289 High Performance
Ford's 289 cubic inch High Performance V8 — designated by the "K" in position 5 of the VIN — produced 271 horsepower and was the apex of Ford's small-block performance offerings. With solid lifters, a 10.5:1 compression ratio, an Autolite 4100 four-barrel carburetor, a dual-point distributor, and free-flowing exhaust manifolds, the K-Code was as close to a racing engine as Ford would put in a production car.
The K-Code was available across all three Mustang body styles — hardtop, fastback, and convertible. In 1965, it was paired exclusively with a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. A C4 automatic became a rare option beginning in 1966.
Privacy & Verification
We take privacy seriously. Full VINs and personal information are never shared publicly. The public listing shows a masked VIN that confirms K-Code status (the "K" in position 5) while protecting the middle digits of the sequence number.
All submissions are reviewed by our administration team before appearing in the public registry. We verify that the VIN is structurally valid and corresponds to a genuine K-Code vehicle.
